Happy 80th Birthday!!
Finally THE PARTY post!(photo by Richard Walker)
Pictures.... from my Dad's 80th birthday surprise party.
We had a luncheon at Branks in Sumner.... a wonderful BBQ restaurant and the owner is a friend of my parents and moved to Seattle from Greer SC only a few miles from where my Dad gew up! It's a cool story. And he makes great BBQ!!
I didn't take very many pictures because there were so many old friends and family there, we had a photographer, Richard Walker, so I got to enjoy and have fun.
More fun in Seattle...
Just some more fun we had in Seattle...
Shopping for some Easter bunnies at See's
(Aunt Lynn took the teenager shopping for clothes, thanks Lynn!!)Hunting for plaid golf pants... no where to be found in the entire city of Seattle...
Really? A cool trend like that? Who would have thought they would be so hard to find?
.
Guitar Center...
Of course!
.
And a few too seriously competitive manly games of Rook!
It's always fun until someone gets hurt.
Let's see... who would be guilty of man handling the kid a little too hard?

Krumkake's
Krumkake` = A norwegian waffle cookie thingie...or just say YUMMMMM!
Mom taught us the art of making them...
"The batter needs to be just the right consistancy... that of; hmmm" Pancakes? No.
Syrup? No.
Gravy? No.
"of Krumkake's".... gee thanks Mom, that helps.
And you will need a krumkake iron (I love the embossing on them) and rolling tool that comes with it...
And a "magic spoon" that measures just the right amount of batter.
And a "magic spoon" that measures just the right amount of batter.
And get lessons from a professional krumkake' roller...
Ready to full with yummy whipped cream or mousse or what ever filling you can think of!
.
The most important part of making krumkake's is to have a "quality control" crew on hand!
If one breaks, quality control must eat it!
If one breaks, quality control must eat it!
If one gets flubbed up coming off the iron... quality control must eat it!
You must have quality control to make sure the filling is getting all the way to the bottom of the cone... only way to test that... well, yes, it's to eat it!
They can't be too hard, or too soft, they must be just right!
So quality control is a very important job.
.
So the fun didn't end there... thinking we were on a good role and getting all the krumkake's made to share with the big crowd for Friday night dinner; Mom left us to finish the job!
.
That was her first mistake.
.
Then for anyone who can fathem why you would want to alphabetize your spices... here is a good reason NOT TO! It makes it super easy for two silly girls to find food coloring when YOU LEAVE THE KITCHEN!!
It wasn't our fault, all the tye dye filled us with inspriation that couldn't be bridled!!
All "tyed" up!
Another big moment while we were in Seattle was when Ralph and Panda gifted everyone in tye dye!! I have wanted to do a post to promote her tye dye business for a while now... and I can't think of any better way.
We had so much fun with it!
They had something designed for everyone.
Sizes, and colors...
And styles...
Sizes, and colors...
And styles...
They nailed it!So as we began to try them on...
We had to have pictures...
So much fun...
And girl power pics...
The family that tye dye's together, stays together...
The whole gang!!
The whole gang!!
Something kind of funny.... during the week my brother Jim and my husband Jim were doing most of the fix it projects. We would call for them asking "where are the GEMS" (brother Ralph had to work, or he would have been a Gem Sandwich, lol). And after they tye dye fashion show and pictures (remember that was HUGE even in the privacy of our own home for both of the Gems!! a tye dye fashion show... yeah right!)
.
But just afterwards, while we were all dressed in our tye dye... Mom yells out and needs something from the store. The Gems look at each other and both are willing to go.... but brother Jim says "NO WAY I AM GOING WITH THE TWO OF US DRESSED LIKE THIS"!!

.
Just the image of The Gems walking around all matchy matchy in tye dye shirts in Seattle, we were rolling on the floor laughing. (their shirts were the same design and color pattern... very "twin like"... and so without the wifey's with them... well you get the image he was trying to avoid) ROFL.
So my Jim put on a jacket over his and off they went.
Sooooo funny!
.
If you LOVE our tye dye and have to have one of your own before spring/summer... go see her website here at Panda's Treasures!
They make so much more than just shirts too... the cutest baby clothes and Jacob has a pair of tye dye deck shoes on order (I can just see all the golfers in them, when that trend catches on), and I LOVE LOVE LOVE my bamboo socks, they are the softest most comfy EVER, anything you could dream of pretty much they can tye dye!!

Stay tuned..
More to post from our spring break in Seattle... just trying to play catch up from being gone, it's quite a busy week.
.
Watching Conference talks we missed while we were traveling.
Calling the nephew missionary for our last goodbyes before he left for the MTC in Brazil Tuesday. Thinking about him ALL DAY!!! And his Momma... HUGS, HUGS!
Work, work, work.
Monday I managed to get ALL the laundry done, only to find the teenagers room looked like a hurricane again this morning. What a let down... shaking it off, shut the door and look the other way. His pig pen, not mine... he keeps it clean in cycles, so don't complain; choose your battles.
Plotting to turn all the teenagers life sustaining tasks over to him (like laundry, cooking, buying his own deodorant etc) after golf season, so he can begin to more closely prepare to be on his own, this will be a culture shock in some areas... I hope not too much, but reality tells me it will be.
Trying to finish my scripture challenge... I missed the goal to finish in March, but not giving up!
Special mutual tonight with the laurels, just got cancelled... so sad, have to regroup and punt now.
Meetings, meetings, and more meetings.
My kid is graduating, better get going on some kind of plans for May, my family is coming to town.
Friend had surgery, trying to be a better friend... I am failing at that job miserably! But still have hope that I can pull it together and help in her hour of need.
Taylor started limping last night, oh I hope she gets better without the vet.
Late getting out a newsletter... AGAIN! UGGggggg!
The teenager has a golf tournament today, sending up good vibes for him to have a great game!
.
Catching up to myself, slowly but surely... Stay tuned!

Friday night dinner... more surprises
Friday night Mom made a big lasagna dinner... it was wonderful and with the exeption of the stress over trying to figure out why it was taking her oven 2 1/2 hours to cook anything, so much fun.
And more surprises for my Dad.
Two of his sisters arrived from SC.
