Linus VanPelt...

Jim and I had to leave after his scout meeting tonight to go pick up some parts in town, we didn't get back until late. When I went in the teenagers room to check on him, I found this...

The brightly colored little tiny blanket was one I made during a very short nesting period the week before he was born. I didn't know how to sew, at all, but my Mom had shipped down on one of our company trucks her sewing machine to California from Seattle. And I was so eager to make something, I managed to figure out how to stitch a straight edge and I literally pieced some scrap fabric I found together to make something for him to lay on so that he would have a blankie!
.
I couldn't imagine my baby without a Linus Blanket... doesn't every kid have one? I know I did.
.
I am so embarrassed about what a shoddy job it was, I just had no idea, but lots of heart at that time in my life... so it was made from love. But I hide it away in a chest, and he will go months and sometimes years and something will come up that causes him to go search it out again. (things like being home alone in the dark when a storm rolls in... who could blame him, I would need it too).
.
I think it is about the sweetest thing I have ever seen. I really love this kid. I don't know how we are going to solve the Linus blanket thing when he moves out, because I wouldn't dare let another living soul, most especially, relief society attending walks of life, lay eyes on it, much less a future potential daughter in law, nobody needs those kinds of first impressions to live down.
.
Maybe I will hold it for ransom to keep him coming home to visit!
